Ahoy Church,
It was wonderful to hear from the youth some of the things God was working in them at the youth camp.
Brad and I were chatting at the end of helping pack-up at SYC (I was late, so Brad did most of it on his own - sorry mate!) about the impact of faith upon our young people.
One of my observations is that it doesn’t take much for us to make a spiritual impact in the next generation. While the more we invest, the greater the harvest, simply focusing on the basics ourselves is enough to ensure faith will be passed on to the next generation.
In the same spirit, last week our Deacons team met and the main agenda was to put a simple question to each of us, “Who are you walking with?”
The goal is that all of us at Open Road - especially our leaders - take seriously God’s mandate that every follower of Jesus pass on faith to those who are hungry for it! While this includes our peers, God makes special mention of passing on faith to the future generations.
In our context, the simple ingredients to pass on faith to others, especially the next generation, are: KNOW, INVITE + GATHER.
Know Jesus
We spiritually nourish others when we are spiritually nourished ourselves. Be tenacious in your pursuit of God. We all encourage each other to know Jesus intimately by reading his word and spend time in his presence through prayer.
Invite others into your life
Whether it’s your own family or friends, your church family or those in your neighbourood. Take seriously God’s call to open up your lives to love and serve others.
Gather to encourage each other
As we did on Sunday, simple gatherings make all the difference in our journey with others. Not only can friendship encourage others, but taking time to hear the Holy Spirit’s encouragement through scripture and sharing is how we are designed to grow.
In the context of passing on a thriving faith to the next generation I want to encourage us all to, “do unto others as you would have them do to”. When you were young and entering high school, the workforce, TAFE, relationships or parenthood would have liked someone more mature in life and faith to take an interest in you? Yes!
So, let’s take our faith seriously and courageously keep knowing Jesus ourselves and passing on that faith to the generations who are also hungry for a life with Jesus themselves!
Cheers, God Bless + see you Sunday!
Dan
P.S. This Sunday is Australia Day. So parking and grass will be at a premium. Allow time to find a park and find us. We’ll do our best to be as inconspicuous as possible :)
State Youth Camp at Worship
Thanks to those who led, attended and organised. Thanks to Open Road for subsidising many youth to attend. Chloe Kelly from Open Road also helped organise the worship! Check out a video of the camp worshipping Jesus together. Extra points if you can spot Sue and Kevin worshipping alongside, and championing, the youth!
