“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14)
Ahoy Church,
When introducing Jesus, the Gospel of Matthew quotes Isaiah 7:14 to affirm that Jesus is the fulfilment of the ancient Israelite prophecy. In Jesus, God was now with us, just like in the Garden of Eden.
This turn of events, coupled with the coming future with Jesus eternally, shows that you and I were always designed to be with God.
To bring about our togetherness, Isaiah also prophesied that, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." (Isaiah 1:18) By removing the sins of God’s people, he would enable them to not only eternally be with him, but to live the life we were all created too.
After Jesus’ rose from the dead, Peter wrote of the significance of his life, death and resurrection. He said in 1 Peter 2:24, “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed."
This Christmas, may you be reminded and inspired that Christ came not just to be with us, to express God’s love, but also to free us to live the life we were also designed to!
Cheers, God Bless and see you Sunday 12th of January, 2025!
P.S. Our rhythms don't stop over Christmas. Take time to invite others into your Christmas season. It could be as simple as a question, an invitation, a message, a walk or a meal. Don't miss this opportunity to follow Christ in public this year!
